Surface
Preparation: Surface must be clean, dry and structurally
sound. It must also be free of efflorescence, grease, oil,
form release agents, curing compounds and any other material
that may affect bond. Surfaces should be primed with LaHabra
Acrylic Primer. Ambient air and surface temperatures must
be 40°F or higher during application and drying time. High
surface temperatures or windy conditions could cause rapid
drying, making it difficult to maintain a wet edge. Protection
from precipitation must be provided as needed.
Application
to LaHabra Wall: LaHabra Wall must be adequately cured. Surface
should be opened (not smooth) by floating or brushing.
Application
to Brown Coat: Brown coat must be adequately cured. If additives
are present in brown coat, a LaHabra Acrylic Finish test patch
should be prepared to verify bonding suitability.
Application
to Concrete: Before application of the finish, concrete
shall have cured a minimum of 28 days. If form release agents
or curing compounds are present on the concrete surface, it
must be cleaned thoroughly. Apply LaHabra Acrylic Primer to
the prepared concrete surface using a roller or brush before
application of the LaHabra Acrylic Finish.
Application
to Masonry: Masonry surface must be coated with a portland cement-based brown
coat or LaHabra Poly-Bond to produce a level surface before application of LaHabra
Acrylic Finish.
Applying
LaHabra®
Acrylic Finish:
Mix:
Using a heavy-duty 1/2" drill fitted with a rust-free
paddle thoroughly mix to a homogeneous consistency at 400
to 500 RPM. Avoid air entrapment. When adding liquid color to a pail of finish, make sure all of the color is added by rinsing out the color vial with water (1/3 of the vial's volume) inta the pail of finish. A small amount of clean,
potable water (no more than 16 oz. or 1 cup per full pail)
may be added to aid workability. Always add the same amount
of water to each pail of finish to maintain color consistency.
Application: Always maintain a wet edge and work to corners or joints. For best color consistency, use finish with the same batch number within a wall section, or box finish productas necessary. Keep container closed when not it use.
Sand Smooth Finish Using a stainless stell trowel, apply a level coat of finish to a minimum thickness of 1/16". Texture is formed out of this 1/16" base, or by adding more finish and applying texturing techniques, such as "skip trowel", typically used for other plaster materails. Maximum thickness for Fine Finish is 1/8".
When applying any LaHabra Acrylic Finish, always maintain a wet edge for uniform color and texture.
Note: Sand Smooth Finish product is not designed for a fine float finish.
Sand Medium and Sand Coarse Finishes Using a stainless steel trowel, apply a level coat of finish to a uniform thickness. For Coarse finish, thickness must not exceed size of largest aggregate. For Medium finish, thickness should be 1-1.5 times the size of largest aggregate.
Finish is textured by adding a second application of finish, using tools and techniques necessary to obtain the desired texture. The maximum thickness within applied texture must not exceed 3/16" (5mm) with an average thickness not greater than 1/8" (3mm).
Cleanup:
Clean tools with water while LaHabra Acrylic Finish is still
wet.
Drying
Time: Varies with air temperature, relative humidity,
wind and coating thickness. Always protect work from rain
for at least 24 hours.
