Aged Limestone

DESCRIPTION
Aged limestone is a polymer modified finish specifically designed for interior and exterior walls. It is a blend of select silica, quartz and other minerals that produce a hard durable finish. This versatile product is easy to use. It can be tinted with iron oxide pigments or stained with different color shades to match and compliment an existing wall finish. The product offers an infinite number of patterns and textures ranging from ultra smooth to coarse unfinished stone. You can use stencils, sprays, brushes or rollers to create the texture you want, giving you endless possibilities to satisfy the most demanding taste.

USES
Use Aged Limestone to create a limestone finish on walls or to create the acid wash look of old world patina. Aged Limestone can be applied over flat concrete, stucco or masonry surfaces. Surfaces must be smooth and flat or skimmed out with a leveling coat to create a smooth surface.

ADVANTAGES

  • Durable polymer modified wall finish.
  • A finish that is easy to use.
  • Versatility beyond compare.
  • Suitable for interior and exterior application.

PACKAGING
50 LB. (22.7 kg) Bags

COVERAGE
Coverage will vary depending on surface texture and porosity
  •   40-50 sq. feet per bag

COLORS & TEXTURES
Aged Limestone is available in fine or coarse aggregate to allow infinite texturing possibilities. Use Antiquing Gel for color.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from grease, oil, dirt, curing compounds, sealer adhesives, or any contaminant that would prevent a good bond. Sprinkle water on various areas of the substrate; if water penetrates the substrate, it means a good bond can be achieved. Once contaminates are removed, apply a Primer as a bonding agent. Interior drywall should be finished to a level 3 finish.

MIXING

  • Mix 1 quart of Admix 100 with 3 quarts of water.
  • Add the 50-lb. bag of Aged Limestone gradually to the water/admix mixture and mix slowly until a uniform, workable consistency is achieved.
  • Let stand for 5 minutes and remix. If the mixture needs more admix (Admix 100 and water), add more until you reach a working consistency.
  • Working time is 45-60 minutes depending on temperature and relative humidity.
  • Once mixed, the product should be applied immediately. Aged Limestone will form a "skin" rapidly, particularly in warm weather.
  • The product should not be used once it skins as the strength and performance will have deteriorated.

APPLICATION
LaHabra recommends that the project owner or designer approve a job site mock-up of the application of this product. The mock-up should demonstrate the products' appearance under the conditions given by the project specification(s).

  • Apply Aged Limestone using either trowel or spray gun.
  • Apply the material 1/16" to 1/4" evenly over the substrate with a stainless steel trowel. If you want to achieve a smooth texture, there is no need to use any texturing apparatus.
  • After 20-30 minutes, use a plastic float trowel to make surface smooth. Textured surface can be achieved by using spray and knock down, textured roller, stencils, and stamps.
  • Do not overwork surfaces, as the finish will tend to "tear" as it skins.
  • Color can be applied after 24 hours. Color with LaHabra Antiquing Gel.
  • For exterior finishes, a sealant is recommended for color maintenance.

CLEAN UP
Clean tools frequently using fresh water. Aged Limestone build-ups are very difficult to remove.

MAINTENANCE
LaHabra Aged Limestone can be cleaned with a soap and water solution followed by a warm water rinse. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners.

STORAGE & HANDLING

  • Transport and store Aged Limestone and Admix 100 in closed, undamaged containers.
  • Protect from moisture and freezing.
  • Avoid eye and skin contact. In case of contact, flush with clean water and seek medical attention if irritation persists.

CAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Use only on surfaces that are sound, clean, dry, unpainted, and free from any residue that might affect the ability of this product to bond to the surface.
  • Ambient and surface temperatures must be 40°F (4°C) or higher during application and drying time. Provide supplemental heat and protection from precipitation as needed.
  • Avoid application in direct sunlight in hot weather.
  • Aged Limestone is not recommended for use:
    • On applications that require a coating more than 3/8" thick.
    • On vertical substrates with large imperfections, unless imperfections are an element of the design.
  • Always wear proper safety equipment, including particle mask, eye protection and gloves when mixing and/or applying this product.
