Antiquing Gel

DESCRIPTION
Antiquing Gel is a water-based, tinted, semi-transparent, acrylic emulsion for staining, sealing, and protecting concrete, masonry, and other cementitious substrates. Antiquing Gel is specifically designed for use with LaHabra Specialty Finishes, proving an old, antique effect. It penetrates into the substrate forming a low sheen coating that is both decorative and protective. Antiquing Gel is permeable to water vapor and resistant to blistering.

USES
Antiquing Gel is a decorative and protective coating for LaHabra Specialty Finishes, cast-place or precast concrete, portland cement plaster, stucco, concrete, and brick masonry. It should be used in very thin films, and misted on to achieve color effects and uniformity. It is tinted to achieve any color shade to match and complement any existing finish.

ADVANTAGES

  • Allows easily achieved, sophisticated effects
  • Offered in a wide array of standard colors
  • Suitable for a variety of substrates
  • Allows for easy correction
  • Tintable to custom colors

PACKAGING
1 gallon and 5 gallon pails

COVERAGE
Coverage will depend on the surface texture and porosity. LaHabra recommends applying a test area to determine actual coverage. One gallon covers approximately 200 - 250 sq ft.

COLOR
Antiquing Gel is available in a variety of standard and custom colors.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Clean surface thoroughly to remove all dirt, dust and loose material. Ensure surface is free from oil, grease, paint and mold. Water blasting at 3000 psi is the best surface preparation method prior to staining or painting weathered cementitious surfaces. New concrete and masonry surfaces must be fully cured with a surface pH below 9. Polished or glossy concrete should be acid etched or slightly sandblasted to open the surface. Remove all forms of releasing agents and curing agents.

MIXING
Gently mix Antiquing Gel for 1-2 minutes by hand.

APPLICATION
LaHabra requires that all applicators attend an educational seminar on LaHabra Specialty Finishes. LaHabra recommends that the project owner or designer approve a job site mock-up of the application of this product. The mock-up should demonstrate the products' appearance under the conditions given by the project specificiation(s).

Apply by brush, roller, spray or appropriate stain applicator. Backwash with a wet sea sponge to eliminate lap marks. All stains have the tendency to lap. To minimize lapping:

  • Do not stain in direct sun or on a hot surface
  • Always stain into a wet edge
  • Stain up and down vertical siding and across horizontal siding
  • Use two coats on badly weathered concrete
  • Apply a second coat when lap marks appear on the first coat
  • Apply the stain in very thin films

CLEAN UP
Water soluble prior to drying. Clean tools and containers with water prior to drying.

MAINTENANCE
LaHabra Antiquing Gel can be cleaned with a soap and water solution followed by a warm water rinse. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners.
