Antiquing Gel

DESCRIPTION
Antiquing Gel is a water-based, tinted, semi-transparent, acrylic emulsion for staining, sealing, and protecting concrete, masonry, and other cementitious substrates. Antiquing Gel is specifically designed for use with LaHabra Select Finishes, providing an old, antique effect. It penetrates into the substrate forming a low sheen coating that is both decorative and protective. Antiquing Gel is permeable to water vapor and resistant to blistering.

USES
Antiquing Gel is a decorative and protective coating for LaHabra Select Finishes, cast-place or precast concrete, portland cement plaster, stucco, concrete, and brick masonry.

PACKAGING
1 quart, 1 gallon and 5 gallon pails

COVERAGE
Coverage will vary depending on surface texture and porosity.
  •   Approximately 200 - 250 sq ft. per gallon.

COLOR
Antiquing Gel is available in a variety of standard colors.

SURFACE PREPARATION

  • Surfaces must be dry and free from dirt and loose material.
  • Ensure surface is free from oil, grease, paint and mold.
  • Water blasting at 3000 psi is the best surface preparation method prior to staining or painting weathered cementitious surfaces.
  • New concrete and masonry surfaces must be fully cured with a surface pH below 9.
  • Polished or glossy concrete should be acid etched or slightly sandblasted to open the surface.
  • Remove all forms of releasing agents and curing agents.

MIXING
Read the entire label before using this product.
Gently mix Antiquing Gel for 1-2 minutes by hand.

APPLICATION
LaHabra recommends that the project owner or designer approve a job site mock-up of the application of this product. The mock-up should demonstrate the products' appearance under the conditions given by the project specificiation(s).

Apply by brush, roller, spray or appropriate stain applicator. Backwash with a wet sea sponge to eliminate lap marks. All stains have the tendency to lap. To minimize lapping:

  • Do not stain in direct sun or on a hot surface
  • Always stain into a wet edge
  • Stain up and down vertical siding and across horizontal siding
  • Use two coats on badly weathered concrete
  • Apply a second coat when lap marks appear on the first coat
  • Apply the stain in very thin films

CLEAN UP
Clean tools with water before Antiquing Gel dries on surface.

MAINTENANCE
LaHabra Antiquing Gel can be cleaned with a soap and water solution followed by a warm water rinse. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners.

STORAGE AND HANDLING
Transport and store Antiquing Gel in closed undamaged containers. DO NOT ALLOW TO FREEZE.

SHELF LIFE
If the product remains in an uponened, undamaged, orignal sealed pail that is properly stored, Antiquing Gel has a shelf life of 1 year.

CAUTIONS & LIMITATIONS

  • Do not use on traffic-bearing horizontal surfaces and floors.
  • Do not use on glazed, very dense surfaces or over ceramics.
  • Use only on surfaces that are sound, clean, dry, unpainted, and free from any residue that might affect the ability of thise product to bond to the surface.
  • Ambient and surface temperature are above 40 °F (4 °C) or more during application and drying time. Provide supplemental heat and protection from precipitation as needed.
  • Avoid application in direct sunlight in hot weather.
  • Silicone treatment may affect penetration.
  • Once Antiquing Gel has been applied it cannot be completely removed. Begin staining lightly to determine desired look. If darker shade is desired, add more Antiquing Gel.
