One 80 lb. (36.3kg.) bag of LaHabra Wall® concentrate covers approximately 2.8 square yards (2.3m2) at 3/8 inch (10mm) thickness.
Job Procedure
A. Surface Preparation:
- On masonry surfaces, apply only to those surfaces that are sound, clean, dry, unpainted, and free of any residue which may affect the ability of LaHabra Wall® to bond to the surface. Thoroughly dampen surface at time of application. See cautions and limitations.
- Over either wood or steel framing, stud selection, bracing, water-resistive barrier and sheathing must conform to the applicable codes.
- When lath is used, apply according to ASTM C 1063. Cover wood-based sheathings with a minimum of two layers of Grade D building paper. Other approved sheathed substrates require a minimum of one layer of Grade D building paper.
- When using T&G Insulation Board, the tongue & groove board is installed horizontally with the tongue up. Vertical joints shall be staggered and shall overlap a framing member.
- Corner aid, control joints etc. must be attached mechanically through the substrate into a framing member.
- Do not apply to substrates which are frozen or contain frost or ice.
- Apply to surfaces prepared for portland cement plaster.
B. Mixing:
- Use cool, clean potable water; let hose run to clear it of hot water.
- LaHabra Wall® with Sand: First add approximately 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of water to the mixer, then add the LaHabra Wall®. Add approximately 60lb of the ASTM C 897 sand. Add one bag of LaHabra Wall®. When mixture becomes homogeneous, add remaining water 1/2 gllon (1.9 liters). Mix at low speed for a minimum of three minutes, until the mixture is smooth. Do not over mix; never mix more than five minutes. Mix each batch for the same amount of time. Mix batches of the same size, using the same amount of water, to ensure consistency. Use LaHabra Wall® immediately after mixing.
- No unapproved additives of any kind, such as portland cement, lime, rapid binders, antifreeze, accelerators, etc. should be added under any circumstances.
- A great variety of colors and textures may be obtained by applying LaHabra finishes.
C. Application:
For complete application procedures refer to ICC-ES ER4226, NES NER 547.
NOTE: All materials are to be installed by a listed applicator and in compliance with the current manufacturer's specifications and/or Evaluation Report and local building code requirements.
- LaHabra Wall® may be sprayed or hand-applied to a minimum thickness of 3/8" on wood or steel studs or a maximum thickness of 1/2".
- LaHabra Wall® should be kept moist by water curing within 48 hours after application. During high temperature or dry weather, frequent water application is required.
- Start light fogging after initial set of 1-2 hours.
- Allow LaHabra Wall® to cure thoroughly before applying acrylic primers or finishes.
- Texture may be applied as soon as base has set sufficiently to receive it.
NOTE: When a portland cement finish coat is to be applied, the surface must be opened (not smooth) by floating or brushing.
