Plaster Mix

USES
Use Plaster Mix as a plaster or stucco finish coat for walls and special decorative features. It is recommended for both interior and exterior environments and is compatible with most plaster basecoats as well as primed interior gypsum board, concrete or masonry surfaces.

ADVANTAGES

  • Surfaces can be stained, glazed, painted or left unaltered for a natural looking appearance.
  • Textures that include ultra smooth, spray and sand can be created quickly and easily.
  • Increasing the ratio of Admix100 to water for mixing with Plaster Mix increases its performance.
  • Easy to clean and maintain.

PACKAGING
50 lb. bag

COVERAGE

  • Textured surfaces
    40-50 sq. ft. per bag
  • Smooth surfaces
    80-100 sq. ft. per bag

COLOR
Plaster mix can be colored with LaHabra Antiquing Gel or painted with quality acrylic latex paints.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from grease, oil, dirt, curing compounds, sealers, adhesives, or any contaminant that would prevent a good bond. Once contaminants are removed it is recommended to apply a primer as a bonding agent. Interior drywall should be finished to a level 3 finish.

MIXING

  • Mix 1 quart of LaHabra Admix 100 with 3 quarts of water.
  • Add the 50 lb bag of Plaster Mix gradually and mix slowly until a uniform, workable consistency is achieved.
  • Let stand for 5 minutes and remix. If mixture needs more liquid, add more until you reach a working consistency.
  • Working time is 45-60 minutes depending on temperature and relative humidity. Once mixed, the product should be applied immediately.
  • Once mixed the product should be applied immediately. Plaster mix will form a "skin" rapidly, particularly in warm weather.

APPLICATION
LaHabra requires that all applicators attend an educational seminar on LaHabra Specialty Finishes. LaHabra recommends that the project owner or designer approve a job-site mock-up of the application of this product. The mock-up should demonstrate the products' appearance under the conditions given by the project specification(s).

Smooth texture: Apply two tight coats to the smoothest texture possible. Let sit until almost dry (approximately 30-60 minutes). Using a non-blackening steel trowel, flatten and trowel the material until smooth texture is achieved. Sprinkle with water if necessary for better workability.

Sand finish texture: Apply two coats (for a total of about 1/16"). Let sit until almost dry. Using a sponge float, float the material until a sand texture is achieved. Sprinkle with water if necessary for better workability.

Spray Texture: Apply using a hopper gun. Material must be mixed slightly wetter compared to a trowel finish. To achieve a slurry type consistency, increase the water to 2-2.5 gallons per bag.

  • Apply Plaster Mix in continuous application, free from cold joints or other deficiencies detrimental to appearance and performance.
  • Continuously apply in one general direction, maintaining a wet edge. If the full width of the wall cannot be covered at one time, terminate application at natural divisions of the surface such as control joints or corners. Do not bridge expansion or control joints.
  • Use high quality, non-blackening steel trowels. Contact Technical Services for the specific types of trowels for your intended results.

CLEAN UP
Clean the tools frequently using fresh water. Plaster Mix build-ups are very difficult to remove.

MAINTENANCE
LaHabra Plaster Mix can be cleaned with a soap and water solution followed by a warm water rinse. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners.

STORAGE & HANDLING

  • Transport and store Plaster Mix in closed, undamaged containers.
  • Protect from moisture.
  • Avoid eye and skin contact. In case of contact, flush with clean water and seek medical attention if irritation persists.

SHELF LIFE
