Poly-Bond

Description
Poly-Bond is for use as a base coat and adhesive for expanded polystyrene foam shapes. These shapes are typically used as exterior decorative trim such as pop-outs, plant-ons, cornices and reveals.

Composition
LaHabra® Poly-Bond is a polymer-modified portland cement-based product.

Packaging
LaHabra® Poly-Bond is available in 50 lb. bags.

Storage
Store under cool, dry conditions. Avoid direct contact with the ground. Properly stored LaHabra® Poly-Bond has a shelf life of approximately one (1) year from date of manufacture.

Coverage
Approximate coverage, when applied according to manufacturer's recommendations, is 50 to 70 sq. ft. per 50 lb. bag.

Job Procedure
A. Mixing
NOTE: Always wear proper safety equipment, including particle mask, when mixing and/or sanding this product.

  1. LaHabra® Poly-Bond requires approximately 1 to 1 1/2 gallons of clean, potable water for each 50 lb. bag.
  2. Add approximately 3/4 of the required water and mix using a mechanical device such as an electric drill until the powder is thoroughly wet.
  3. Add the remaining water needed (see "Applying LaHabra® Poly-Bond" below) and blend for a total mixing time of 5 minutes.
  4. Allow material to stand for five minutes, then remix to break the initial set.

B. Application

  1. For Use as an Adhesive: In Step 3 above, after initial mixing add sufficient water and mix to a heavy, paste-like consistency. Apply approximately 1/4" of LaHabra® Poly-Bond to the back of the foam shape and press into place on the pre-moistened portland cement substrate. (Poly-Bond has sufficient adhesion to hold most shapes in place. Larger shapes might require additional support.) Allow a minimum cure period of 24 hours BEFORE performing any additional work on the adhered shape.
  2. For Use as a Base Coat: Machine- or hand-apply a coating of approximately 3/16" to 1/4" to the foam shape. Embed fiberglass mesh in the base coat to increase impact resistance. Allow a minimum cure period of 24 hours before applying a LaHabra exterior finish over the Poly-Bond coated EPS shape. For best results apply a coat of LaHabra® Acrylic Bonder to the cured Poly-Bond surface before applying the LaHabra exterior finish.
  3. LaHabra recommends the use of fiberglass mesh over entire surfaces of foam shapes to increase impact resistance.

Cautions and Limitations

  1. In hot/dry weather LaHabra® Poly-Bond should be water-cured after 24 hours.

  2. LaHabra® Poly-Bond requires an ambient air temperature MINIMUM of 40°F. Air temperature must remain at or above 40°F for at least 24 hours after application.

  3. Do NOT apply LaHabra® Poly-Bond in freezing weather or to frozen substrates.

  4. LaHabra recommends the use of fiberglass mesh over entire surfaces of foam shapes to increase impact resistance.

  5. See package for handling precautions.

  6. Always wear proper safety equipment, including particle mask, when mixing and/or applying this product.
